Marble can be used for home decor, furniture, counter tops, flooring, and decorative arts. It comes in many different colors. White marble is the one that most people prefer. When using marble for counter tops, flooring, bathroom tiles, etc, there is always the possibility that they could become stained. After using these methods, you will need to cover them with plastic and tape down so air will not get inside. How long you must keep it covered will depend on the stain. You may have to repeat these methods several times to get the stain completely out.
Poultice
If you cannot remove the stains by simply marble cleaning, you can use a poultice. The material is in the form of powder to paper. It will be used to reabsorb the stain. To prepare the poultice use absorbent materials that is white, like a paper towel or facial tissue. Dampen the tissue or paper towel with the stain-removing chemical. Form a soft paste and put it over the stain. Make sure that the past covers the stain completely. Depending on how old the stain is, you should leave it on for sixty minutes to two days. Use a little water to remove the poultice and dry with a soft cotton cloth.
Lukewarm water
Take a soft sponge and wet it with lukewarm water. Squeeze out any excess amount so the sponge is just damp. Marble cleaning should be done by gently rubbing the surface and use a soft cotton cloth to dry it. This is the method you should use for simple stains like water or oil. With this method, you do not need to cover it with plastic as it is cleaned immediately.
Hydrogen peroxide
When there is a stain on light-colored marble use this to saturate a white paper towel. If the stain is from ink, place the towel on the stain. After twenty-four to forty-eight hours remove the paper towel and rinse with water.
Baking soda
This is the treatment to use when marble cleaning vinegar spills. This can be used on your flooring or countertop. Blot up the vinegar first and then make a paste of water and baking soda. Dampen the area where you spilled vinegar with water and apply the water/baking soda paste. Keep it covered for at least twenty-four hours and once uncovered, let it dry for twenty-four more hours. Use water and a soft cotton towel to remove the dried paste.
Scouring powder
This marble cleaning method is for oil. Cover it with cornstarch for twenty-four hours to absorb the excess oil. Next, wash with dish detergent and hot water. For stubborn oil stains scrub the stain with scouring powder, bleach, and rinse with hot water.
