Carbon Fiber Hard Hats – Are They Worth The Price?

Carbon fiber is one of the toughest and most durable materials available. It has not been around long only since the early 1960’s. But during its short life it has become synonymous with quality and strength. Without going into the reasons carbon fiber is so strong and how it is produced, let us just assume that this is the case.

This is only one of the reasons that it is now commonly used in the production of safety gear. The other reason that drives this use is the fact that it is light. The importance of this cannot be underestimated. And it is its lightweight features that have led to the success of carbon fiber in the area of safety.

Traditionally safety gear was cumbersome and heavy, making it very uncomfortable to wear. It would often obstruct a workers ability to work and get the job done.

However, with the introduction of carbon fiber, safety clothing and protective wear became light and easy to wear. Shipping costs also came down. It was only a matter of time before carbon fiber hard hats were introduced and began appearing on building sites and construction sites all over the country.

Workers liked wearing them and got used to them very easily. The strain on their necks typically associated with a heavier hat was gone. The pressure on the head was less and they were even cooler to wear.

Carbon fiber hard hats are no doubt still more expensive than other construction hats. However they have proved time and time again that they can take a punch. They absorb heavy shocks and provide and unparalleled level of safety to the wearer.

So the hard hats last longer, the cost is actually reduced by the fact that you are replacing them less. As with everything else that you buy, purchasing them in bulk will obviously reduce the price so it is a good idea to budget for bulk. Shipping costs are also reduced with a bulk purchase, and depending on the amount will often be included free of charge.

Like all safety equipment that you will be using on your job or construction site, you need to make sure that it adheres to all the national safety and regulatory standards, required of you. Just because it is carbon fiber does not automatically mean it is safe to use. So make sure you are only buying approved hard hats and that they come with all the necessary paperwork.
